Son 18 looking to get in somewhere in the city.Few interviews no luck.Any advice welcome,A level results should be ok.Is it worth signing up with recruitment firms??.It was the job centre or the local paper back in the day.Any advice welcome and hopefully the usual abuse.TIA

Send him out to see the world for a few months \\ gap year if he has the cash. Don’t rush him straight into a city job.

Yes tell him to join an agency and also to go on all the relevant Job sites and register for email alerts for suitable vacancies, he can tailor the alert to his job preferences.
He'll then start getting dialy emails with vacancies.

MPI - That's what I was thinking mate.
Which, is what I used to do and the firm i'm with now also help with, finding young people apprenticeships.

Micheal, any particular area? I'm sure we have Accounting Apprenticeships going on at the moment, also I know a lot of other companies that I could point you towards mate.

I work in the city, run IT for a speciality insurer and reinsurer - looking at taking on an apprentice from next month for a year or two, will give them on the job training etc

Apprenticeships are the way forwards for school leavers, paid to work and get an A level at the end of it, followed by a degree etc etc without taking out stupid debts to go to uni and spunk it up the wall.

and my advice would be make sure he goes to university.
barrow boy jobs died out 20 years ago. you dont get into the front office without a degree from at least a russel group university.

You've no clue about the structure of apprenticeships, Divros.
As this is my line of work, I'd strongly recommend slowly leaving this thread before you add to the already horrific day you have had on here.
